Greeks, barbarians & Hellenists

This week in our Romans study we bump up against a cultural statement that we just don’t always fully understand.  The following section is expanded from Matthew Henry’s commentary and some material from Wikipedia on Hellenistic Greeks. I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians,[a] both to the wise and to the foolish

Saving Faith

This is a great clarification on Faith from my Life Application Study bible and I wanted to share it with you. Faith Faith is a word with manuy meanings. It can mean faithfulness (Matthew 24:45). It can mean absolute trust, as shown by some of the people who came to Jesus for healing (Luke 7:2-10).

Small group for men

We wanted to clarify and explain some things about this gathering of Christian men.  We come from all backgrounds, occupations, churches and a wide variety of families.  The main purpose of the group is to… “create a transparent, challenging atmosphere for the wild at heart”. Here is a great little clip by the Skit Guys

Romans 1:1-7

Romans Chapter 1, verses 1-7 These first seven verses form the longest introduction of any of Paul’s letters. He was trying to introduce himself and his theology to a church who did not know him personally and may have even heard negative information about him.  From this opening section we can see something that makes

Introduction to Romans

Romans Introduction The church in Rome was a testimony to God’s power, it had flourished despite the obstacles posed by the surrounding pagan culture. (See Romans 16:1-2) It was from this same harbor that Paul

This will all end

We know of the act on the cross where Jesus declared. “It is finished”. Then we read about all the acts of the apostles and we learn about all the things we are supposed to do and how we are to make disciples, be fishers of men. Do this, do that and we just seem

Free for all

Jesus did not come and die on the cross and intend for us to accept eternal salvation with Him and then sit and hide on the porch, working to not sin any more.  He came and died that we would be forgiven and grant us the authority of heaven by being adopted.  He forgave us

Do we really Fellowship?

Independence, survivalist, what do you call it?  Society says we are measured how well we can survive on our own. But Jesus makes it clear, not to isolate. The term “church”, that is a common word thrown around these days. But this week we dig in a little deeper and find out the intentions Jesus
