Does God Change His Mind? This weeks lesson reveals the most dependable characteristic of God—His immutable (unchanging) ways. Rather than being wishy-washy about Nineveh’s fate, God’s unchanging justice and mercy allow the city to be spared when its inhabitants humble themselves before Him. Overview – Jonah 3:10 When God saw what they did, how they…
WHEN REVIVAL COMES This lesson reveals the signs and evidences of genuine revival from the human perspective. When God’s preacher gives God’s ultimatum to the Assyrians, every creature from the king to the cattle gets covered in sackcloth. Repentance and revival come to Nineveh! OVERVIEW JONAH 5 And the people of Nineveh believed God. They…
Revival Time In this lesson we discover all the elements of a true biblical revival. The headline and sub-heads of The Denver Post, dated January 20, 1905, read as follows: “Entire city pauses for prayer at the high tide of business as the soul rises above sordid thoughts: remarkable outbursts of gospel sentiment provoked by…
Loving the Ones You Hate In this lesson, we discover that spiritual needs are often not met because of prejudices based on external factors. A strange paradox sometimes exists with religious people. This lesson shows that sometimes God allows us to be stripped of every provision so that we’ll see our one true resource—Himself. We have heard it said before, there are no atheists in foxholes. Jonah, chapter two, shows us that the bellies of whales seem to have the same effect. All it takes for the…
This lesson demonstrates how and why God is willing to discipline His children in order to teach them and bring them to maturity. Jonah discovers not only that God prepared a ministry for him, but God prepared a contingency plan to save the ministry—and the minister. In the seventeenth verse of Jonah, chapter one, the scene…
This weeks lesson in Jonah reveals how the unguarded heart of a believer can become callous and uncaring. Jonah’s sin and uncaring attitude put the very lives of those around him in mortal danger. He discovers that no man is an island. The Book of Jonah is, in many ways, a contest between Jonah and…
The Book of Jonah is one of the most incredible books in the Bible. It is filled with mystery and intrigue. And yet it is a book that has taken a great deal of abuse. Perhaps no other book in the Bible has suffered at the hands of critics like Jonah has. Why has this…
I remember as a child, and even into my adult years, that I have nobody. There were many times when a feeling of utter loneliness would well up within me. It was a feeling that was all too familiar and that I carried with me at the core of my soul for many years. Although…
